TASTING NOTES

Pinot Noir 2005

Another very small production year with only 120 cases made. Early on, this wine had some worryingly un-pinot like flavours, but with 18 months in bottle theyve integrated very well. Its a rich, deep Pinot Noir with ripe cherry flavours and almost syrah-like pepper notes. As it ages this wine is becoming more and more balanced and complex - its earlier edginess giving way to a brooding finish.

Pinot Noir 2003

Wine description

Frost at the end of 2002 reduced the crop on our home vineyard very severely. To maintain a reasonable wine volume we bought in fruit from a vineyard in the neighbouring Te Muna valley. Consequently the wine shows a slightly different character from previous releases.
A deep garnet colour is matched by the wine's aromas - dark berry and cherry fruit with a whisper of toasty oak. In the mouth, rich dark plum and cherry underpinned by soft tannins linger into a well-balanced finish. The wine is showing the characteristic brightness of flavour of Stonecutter Pinot Noir and increasing complexity with bottle age.

One of six representative 2003 Pinot Noirs from Martinborough selected by NZ media for a promotional pack for the launch of Wines From Martinborough.

Merlot 2006

With two and a half years in bottle this wine is really excellent drinking. It has gorgeous black doris plum and brambly fruit flavours, with whiffs of tobacco and rich spice. Its a warm cozy blanket of a wine, but not so heavy it makes you sweat.

Merlot 2008

A soft generous wine with rich sweet red plum flavours, lifted by subtle oak. Mouth filling with excellent structure and length.

Pinot Gris 2008

Golden straw colour. Apple and nashi pear with a mealiness from extended lees contact make this an attractive wine with good structure and length.

Sauvignon Blanc 2009

Like other Martinborough Sauvignon Blanc, a lovely crisp bright wine with tropical fruit flavours - pineapple and sweet lime. This is a bone dry sauvignon blanc with good length.

Rose 2009

Our Rose is a blend of Merlot and Pinot Noir juice and has fresh raspberryand strawberry notes. Enjoy chilled on summer holiday afternoons.
